Studies in American Material Culture: When is a Brick More than a Brick?

Students enrolled in the fall 2012 iteration of Studies in Material Culture will have the opportunity to apply their skills in a real curatorial capacity. We will partner with Drexel University’s Historic Costume Collection, to develop an exhibit of historic textiles that will debut at Drexel during spring 2013. In light of this cooperative project, Studies in Material Culture will be particularly concerned this semester with the history of textiles as well as with issues bearing on the practice of public history, specifically within museums and other exhibitionary contexts.
